CHOOSING A GOOD FRIEND
Everyone needs friends, but sometimes people make poor choices in selecting their friends. Whenever parents see their children associating with delinquent youths, they usually remind them of the proverb: “ When we are near the ink, we get soiled; ; when we area near the light, we get illuminated”.
If we handle a, black ink pot, the ink might spill and soil our clothes and body. If we sit near a light, the light will illuminate us and our surroundings.
The black ink can be compared with an undesirable friend and the light can be compared with a good and wholesome friend. We are easily influenced by our friends and associations. If we associate with people who possess bad traits, these traits are often adopted by us. On the other hand, associations with wholesome people tend to make our lives wholesome also.
Mencius’s mother had to move her family many times because of the undesirable influence of her neighbors on her son. When she and her son, Mencius, lived near a market place, Mencius imitated the traiders and played marketing all day long. His mother decided to move to another place which happened to be near a butcher’s shop. Mencius then started to imitate the butcher by playing a game of butchering a hog. Finally his mother decided to move again and this time moved near a school. Mencius then started imitating friends of his age. He began to study and later became a famous sage.
Another example found in my class also proves the above proverb to be correct. In my class there is a student whose name is Minh. At the beginning of the school year, Minh sat near a lazy and mischievous student. Not long after, Minh also became lazy and similar in his behavior to that of his neighboring class-mate. Learning that his son was making poor progress, Minh’s father suggested that the teacher move Minh to another seat. This time Minh sat near Toan, a studious and docile student. Minh soon corrected his bad habits and later became as good as Toan.
All of the above examples prove to us that we need to select our friends carefully. We should try to keep company with wholesome friends and avoid those who might have a bad influence on us.
Since young people lack mature experience, they often try to imitate others without being thoughtful of consequenses which might be imposed upon them. We have to remember and practise the proverb: “When we are near the ink we get soiled; when we area near the light, we get illuminated” to lead happy and beneficial lives.

UNITY IS STRENGTH
Any time a group of people are divided and lack unity,we can foresee chaos and failure for the group.People who are united and stand together overcome hard situations and succeed in the end.For this,we can think about the meaning of the saying:united we stand, divided we fall.
United means the cooporation of a group of people who all have good will and share the same goals. They strive together to achieve these goals. Such cooperation will create an immense power for any group of people.
Divided means that people are not together in their thinking, efforts and endeavors. They do not share with one another and are often selfish – putting their own welfare above that of the society. They are reluctant to give support to their country even when the coutry is jeopardized by invaders.
Through unity, mankind has existed. When man was first created, he joined others to establish families, tribes and finally countries. In other to exist, our early ancestors knew that if they united with one another in groups, they could better fight off wild beasts, neighboring hostile tribes and other dangers to their lives. They also could hunt to obtain their food and other essentials more easily.
Someone thinks that independently working will make people responsible for their work. However, the fact is that working in group helps people get several good ideas, improve communication skills. Let’s look back to our history and find examplse of unity. Our ancestors defeated the invaders so many times and maintained independence for our country through a solid unity of the people and the army. King “Lê Lợi” drove off the Minh army, General “Trần Hưng Đạo” destroyed the Mongolian Troops and King “Quang Trung” crippled the Thanh invaders.
We can see the strength, power, and benefits which unity provides through the above examples. We only have to follow the examples found in our history, and unite with one another in other to maintain the independence of our country, do what is good for our people and help one another.
We must be aware of the saying:’united we stand, divided we fall’ and hold ourselves responsible for our actions so that we can keep our country strong. We have to put our country’s interest above all else , eradicate all envies and disunities in order to become a strong and united people.

How the Sun evolved
The temperature of the Sun is over 5000 degrees Fahrenheit at the surface, but it rises to perhaps more than 16 million degrees at the center. The Sun is so much hotter than the Earth that matter can exist only as a gas, except at the core. In the core of the Sun, the pressures are so great against the gases that, despite the high temperature, there may be a small solid core. However, no one really knows, since the center of Sun can never be directly observed.
Solar astronomers do know that the Sun is divided into five layers or zones. Starting at the outside and going down into the Sun, the zones are the corona, chromosphere , photosphere, convection zone, and finally the core. The first three zones are regarded as the Sun’s atmosphere. But since the Sun has no solid surface, it is hard to tell where the atmosphere ends and the main body of the Sun begins.
The Sun ‘s outermost layers begins about 10000 miles above the visible surface and goes outward for millions of miles. This is the only part of the Sun that can be seen during an eclipse such as the one in February 1979. At any other time, the corona can be seen only when special instruments are used on cameras and telescopes to shut out the glare of the Sun’s rays.
The corona is a brilliant, pearly white, filmy light, about as bright as the full Moon. Its beautiful rays are a sensational sight during an eclipse. The corona’s rays flash out in a brilliant fan that has wispy spikelike rays near the Sun’s north and south poles. The corona is thickest at the Sun’s equator.
The corona rays are made of gases streaming outward at tremendous speeds and reaching a temperature of more than two million degrees Fahrenheit. The rays of gas thin out as they reach the space around the planets. By the time the Sun’s corona rays reach the Earth, they are weak and invisible.
